Dr. Kakade obtained his Master of Surgery (MS) in Ophthalmology from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, India. He subsequently completed his Diplomate of National Board (DNB) in Ophthalmology from the National Board of Examinations, India, and obtained Membership of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (MNAMS). He further completed the International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) Clinical Sciences Examination and a Long-term Fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery from Aravind Eye Hospital, India. Additionally, Dr. Sathya completed the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (FRCS) and a Certificate Course in Health Quality and Safety (CCHQ) from Sankara Nethralaya Academy, India.
Dr. Kakade has more than 23 years of experience as a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Vitreoretinal Surgeon, with extensive expertise in medical and surgical retina. Throughout his career, he has played key leadership roles in developing comprehensive ophthalmology and vitreoretinal services, including serving as Clinical Lead of Ophthalmology at Burjeel Medical City, Abu Dhabi. He has also established and led vitreoretinal services at multiple tertiary eye care centers across India and the UAE, including his role as Head of Vitreoretinal Services at Vasan Eye Care Hospitals, Bangalore.
Dr. Sathya has been a recognized speaker and invited faculty member at national and international ophthalmology conferences, including meetings organized by the Emirates Society of Ophthalmology, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, World Ophthalmology Congress, and the Vitreoretinal Society of India. In addition, he has contributed to ophthalmic research through multiple peer-reviewed scientific publications and case reports focusing on vitreoretinal diseases, ocular inflammation, and retinal imaging.
He is actively involved in postgraduate education and fellowship training, serving as a fellowship coordinator, postgraduate teacher, examiner, and mentor for MS, DNB, and vitreoretinal fellows. Dr. Sathya has also contributed to community eye health initiatives, including serving as Chief Coordinator of the "Nazar Ayeni" Community Eye Initiative in Ras Al Khaimah, supporting diabetic retinopathy screening and the prevention of avoidable blindness. Furthermore, he has held leadership positions within professional societies, including Joint Secretary and Editor-in-Chief of the Karnataka Ophthalmological Society, where he contributed to scientific meetings and educational programs.
Prior to joining Danat Al Emarat, Dr. Sathya Jagannatha Rao Kakade worked as a Consultant Ophthalmology and Clinical Lead of Ophthalmology at Burjeel Medical City, Abu Dhabi, UAE.
