Education

Dr. Ben Ayad has more than 14 years of medical experience in Neonatology.

He obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Al Fatah, Tripoli, Libya. He is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and holds American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) Certification in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine.

Dr. Ben Ayad has an extensive academic and professional portfolio, with over 10 scientific publications and regularly participating as both a national and international speaker at conferences across the USA, Libya, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. He is a Pediatric and Neonatal Arab Board examiner and has served as Chair for multiple online courses and webinars. In addition, he is also a co-faculty member of the Neonatal Fellowship Program. Further to that, Dr. Ben Ayad previously served as Director of the NICU Transport Team at Javon Bea Hospital – Riverside from February 2021 to March 2022.

Prior to joining Danat Al Emarat, Dr. Ben Ayad worked as a Consultant Neonatologist at Tawam Hospital and as an Assistant Professor at United Arab Emirates University, Al Ain, UAE.

Dr. Ben Ayad’s scope of practice includes clinical excellence in advanced neonatal care with a focus on establishing evidence-based protocols for respiratory support including non-invasive ventilation and LISA/SALSA techniques, neuroprotection in preterm infants, leadership of neonatal quality and safety programs to reduce morbidity including care bundles for necrotizing enterocolitis and germinal matrix hemorrhage–intraventricular hemorrhage, and standardized neonatal resuscitation and documentation practices.

Field of Expertise

Management of high-risk newborns including extremely preterm infants at or below 28 weeks’ gestation, very low birth weight infants, and critically ill term neonates, advanced respiratory support including CPAP, HFNC, conventional and high-frequency ventilation, and less invasive surfactant administration techniques such as LISA and SALSA, neonatal resuscitation and delivery room stabilization as a Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Instructor, multidisciplinary team leadership and staff development, and strategic planning and policy development in neonatal services.
