Prof. Dr. Marija Hadji Lega is a distinguished expert with a robust academic background. She earned her Medical Degree from St. Cyril & Methodius University, Medical University, North Macedonia, in 1997, specializing in Obstetrics & Gynecology in 2005. Subsequently, she pursued a subspecialization in Maternal Fetal Medicine, obtaining her Subspecialist degree in 2014 from the same university.
In her quest for knowledge and expertise, Dr. Marija completed her PhD in Maternal Fetal Medicine at the Medical University of Nish, Serbia. Her research focused on predicting preterm deliveries by combining biochemical and biophysical markers, culminating in a thesis titled “Prediction of preterm delivery in symptomatic patients.”
Continuing her education internationally, Dr. Marija attained certifications in third-level first and second-trimester screening from the Medical University of Trieste, Italy. She further honed her skills through fellowships and training at prestigious institutions such as the University Hospital and Burlo Garofolo Hospital in Trieste, Italy, the Harris Birthright Research Center at King’s College Hospital in London, Ependorf Clinic in Hamburg, Germany, and AKH in Vienna, Austria.
In 2023, Dr. Marija obtained a Master’s Degree in Maternal Fetal Medicine from the University of Barcelona, specifically from Medicina Fetal Barcelona. Subsequently, in 2024, she achieved a unique Diploma in Fetal Cardiology after completing a postgraduate program in Fetal Cardiology at the University of Barcelona under the mentorship of Prof. Fatima Crispi.
Actively engaged in the professional community, Dr. Marija serves on the Executive Board of the South-Eastern Europe Society of Perinatal Medicine and holds membership on the board of MEDUOG (Mediterranean Society for Ultrasound in Gynecology and Obstetrics). Additionally, she contributes as a member of the Editorial board for the Official Journal of the South East European Society of Perinatal Medicine, Gynecology Obstetrics & Reproductive Medicine.

Prof. Dr. Marija Hadji Lega is an accomplished expert with over 25 years of specialized experience in Maternal and Fetal Medicine and Fetal Cardiology,focusing on first trimester screening, anomaly scans, growth scans,fetal echocardiography with extensive evaluation of fetal cardiac morphometry and evaluation of fetal cardiac functions, prediction of preterm delivery with evaluation of cervical length,follow up of the all types of twin pregnancy,fetal growth disorders,fetal abnormalities etc.
She is well recognized Fetal Cardiologist holding the prestigious diploma and training from University of Barcelona.Her proficiency extends to performing invasive procedures such as amniocentesis,CVS,amniodrainage demonstrating a high level of skills and expertise in this critical interventions.
Previously serving as the Head of the High-Risk Pregnancy and Fetal Medicine Department at the University Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics in Skopje, North Macedonia—the premier tertiary clinic in its field—Dr. Marija has demonstrated exceptional leadership and expertise.
In 2016, she was appointed as an Associate Professor in Gynecology and Obstetrics at the Medical Faculty of the University St. Cyril and Methodius in Skopje, North Macedonia. Dr. Marija is deeply committed to medical education, actively engaging in the training of medical students and residents, imparting her wealth of knowledge and experience to the next generation of healthcare professionals.
With a five-year tenure as the Medical Director of the University Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics in Skopje, North Macedonia, Dr. Marija underwent specialized training in Hospital Management in Japan.
Dr. Marija is a renowned invited lecturer at prestigious global, European, and local congresses, including events hosted by the World Association of Perinatal Medicine (WAPM), the European Society of Perinatal Medicine (ECPM), the South East European Society of Perinatal Medicine, the Ian Donald School for Ultrasound in Gynecology.
