At Danat Al Emarat, our aim is to create to our patients a one stop facility where all their healthcare needs are met under one roof. Therefore, Danat Al Emarat Hospital for Women & Children, encompasses a proctology and phlebology department in collaboration with Dubai-based Laven Clinic. Laven clinic is specialty laser clinic focused on Venous and Ano-rectal conditions. It has a leading group of specialist surgeons dedicated to advanced, minimally invasive, same day laser treatments of multiple common conditions, who practice at Danat Al Emarat. Their treatment protocol is laser focused on cure without pain using the American College of Surgeons standard of care at all their facilities and procedures.
Proctology is the medical specialty concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of disorders that affect the rectum and anus. Some of the most common conditions treated by proctologists at Danat Al Emarat are:
- Hemorrhoids
- Anal Fissure
- Anal Fistula
- Pilonidal cyst
- Other Anorectal conditions
Conditions treated
Hemorrhoids (or Piles) are dilated veins in the anus, they look like abnormal lumps, they cause one of three common symptoms: pain, bleeding or repeated inflammatory attacks and prolapse. We utilize several laser-based methods to treat all different stages/types of hemorrhoids, these laser-based methods are time tested, safe, extremely effective and bypass most conventional surgery complications and pain. 85% of the Hemorrhoids we treat are completed within less than 10 minutes. The treatment involves no cutting or removal of any tissue, but simply surface laser application or EndoLaser ablation of the Hemorrhoids or ultrasound guided ligation of hemorrhoids or combination of both.
15% of Hemorrhoids cases are so advanced by the time the patients present to us that they require an inevitable actual surgical laser removal of the hemorrhoid, i. e. Laser Hemorrhoidectomy. It involves using the laser to remove the hemorrhoidal masses, no stitches or packing are necessary. All patients are up and running immediately after their treatments, and they can return to their work and daily activities the next day.
Anal Fissure is a cut in the anal skin that keeps causing pain, discomfort, itching, and occasional bleeding, usually associated with difficulties and straining during defecation or constipation. Most anal fissure cases, when caught early enough, i.e., during the first six weeks of their occurrence can be aborted with simple topical treatment and measures or one single tiny Botox injection administered by the physician. Once we pass the six weeks point, the condition becomes chronic and will inevitably require some kind of intervention which is usually partial relaxation of their internal sphincter muscles without which the anal fissure will never heal. Our laser treatment of Anal Fissure is so simple. It needs less than five minutes to complete it. It is done without an incision, stitches, or complicated surgery with simple local anesthesia. The relief is immediate. Left untreated Anal Fissure can cause serious complications.
Anal Fistula is a chronic tunnel that forms around the anus and causes repeated infection/abscess formation and discharges (spotting/soilage seen on the underwear) or itching or a pimple near the anus that wouldn’t heal. This is a serious condition that could lead to serious complications and needs to be addressed early on in its course. Fortunately, 85% of Anal Fistula cases are low, i.e. below the sphincter muscle and therefore require simple laser Fistulectomy. This procedure is performed under simple local anesthesia in few minutes. Laser wounds heal fast, in a near painless fashion and do not interfere with patient’s daily activities at all.
For those 15% of patients, when we suspect that their Fistula is high (passing through significant portion of their sphincter muscle), we perform a couple of tests that help us to understand and delineate the Fistula track properly and its course through the Rectal Sphincter complex.
In treating these complicated cases, we use the Fistuloscope (a little cannula with a camera at the tip) to help us laser properly the entire Fistula track (a procedure called Laser assisted VAAFT procedure or LA-VAAFT), as well as more technically delicate procedures to assure the complete closure of the Fistula.
All of our Fistula treatments require less than half an hour to perform but they offer these complex Fistula patients the best and safest chance of cure with minimal or no pain and discomfort. In most cases, there is no cut in the skin, no stiches and no chance of injury to the sphincter muscle.
Pilonidal cyst, also known as Ingrown Hair Cyst or Tailbone Cyst or Coccygeal Fistula, seen mostly in younger patients with the chief complaint of pain in mid buttocks groove, accompanied at times with some swelling, redness and may be some foul-smelling discharges.
Our specialists have adopted and refined a treatment that combine the benefits and healing power of Endo laser with the proven methods of traditional surgical experience.
The method involves no incision or wounds more than enlarging slightly the existing opening, then utilizing the Fistuloscope and Endo-laser to cauterize all cyst walls from within, ending up with tiny opening that requires very little daily postoperative care, with immediate return to work and daily activities. This is done under simple local anesthesia, in less than half an hour with patient up and running immediately after treatment.
Laser Assisted Endoscopic Pilonidal Sinus Treatment (LA-EPSiT) is an exclusive treatment of choice at our clinic for most of Pilonidal Cyst patients. It is the combination of the Aji Procedure with the Endoscopic tools that makes it so effective and popular. 95% of patients enjoy a permanent cure after LA-EPSiT without missing one day of work or sport activities.
For those advanced and recurrent cases of Pilonidal cysts that we see at the clinic or referred to us by other physicians and general surgeons especially those associated with deep natal cleft or defect, Laven Specialists perform a very effective Laser Assisted Modified Cleft Lift Repair ( LA-MCLR ), again, under simple local anesthesia with mild sedation, no open wounds or dressing changes, and excellent permanent cure rate (more than 98%).
Other Anorectal conditions include several conditions such as rectal incontinence, anal stenosis, rectal bleeding, rectal itching and genital and common warts (in all locations).
The above conditions treatments and techniques being applied are certainly the most unique, effective and minimally invasive compared to anything else found in the region.
