Danat Al Emarat Hospital for Women & Children, part of the M42 group, has partnered with UK-based ProFaM to introduce ovarian tissue cryopreservation (OTC) — a groundbreaking service that enables women to preserve fertility and delay menopause naturally. The service was officially announced at Arab Health 2025, reflecting the UAE’s ongoing commitment to advancing women’s health.
Unlike egg freezing, OTC is a minimally invasive, hormone-free procedure that involves collecting and freezing a small piece of ovarian tissue, ideally before the age of 35. The tissue can later be re-implanted during perimenopause to maintain hormonal balance, delay menopause, or support fertility — making it especially beneficial for women undergoing cancer treatment, managing conditions like endometriosis, or seeking a natural alternative to hormone replacement therapy (HRT).
This pioneering service offers a new level of autonomy for women over their reproductive and hormonal
health — with the potential to extend fertility and improve quality of life by naturally restoring hormone levels.
Dr. Summia Zaher, CEO of Danat Al Emarat, commented:
“With increasing numbers of women choosing to conceive later and looking for natural menopause management options, this service meets a critical and growing need. We are proud to offer women more control over their health, fertility, and future.”
The project is led by Dr. Zahid Khan, Consultant Gynecologist and Advanced Laparoscopic
Surgeon, and will be integrated into select elective and laparoscopic procedures, such as endometriosis surgeries. Abu Dhabi Biobank will store the preserved tissue under
cryogenic conditions for up to 15 years.
Professor Simon Fishel, Co-Founder of ProFaM, added:
“This collaboration marks a transformative step in women’s health. OTC empowers women with real, proactive options for managing both fertility and hormones naturally.” The service aligns with Danat Al Emarat’s mission to redefine women's healthcare in the region and will soon be expanded across other M42 healthcare entities in the Middle East and beyond.
