Women experiencing mood swings or feel depressed after childbirth could be suffering from “baby blues” or postpartum depression.
You’re not alone. Studies show that up to 80% of new mothers get what’s called the “baby blues” — short-term dips in mood caused by all of the changes that come with a new baby, which usually starts 2 or 3 days after giving birth, but you’re likely to feel better by the time your baby is 1 or 2 weeks old. If it lasts longer or you feel worse, then this could be postpartum depression that needs to be managed immediately.
In such cases, the mother should immediately visit Danat Al Emarat to get appropriate diagnosis and treatment. We are specialized in treating postpartum depression and in bringing the mother back to her normal condition.
After the birth of a child, mothers may suffer from postpartum depression. It is a serious condition where the new mother feels hopeless, sad, guilty, depressed and irritated all the time; she loses interest in eating and sleeping; she witnesses mood swings; and she faces trouble with memory and focus. Under postpartum depression, women do not feel like showing care for their baby or bother to bond with them. Hence, the condition should be treated at the earliest.
We have specialized psychiatrists in our team, in collaboration with Dubai-based Camali Clinic, who will help you diagnose and manage postpartum depression.
Our doctors act as counselors and consultants. They comfort the mothers and provide the utmost care to women post-childbirth so that they can come out of postpartum depression smoothly. Following international protocols, they also suggest appropriate medications and prescribe antidepressants that relive women of their depression.
