Education

Dr. Mufeed has a Bachelor degree of Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) from Baghdad University in 1980 followed by a Master’s degree in Psychiatry and Neurology from the Faculty of Medicine, Ain-Shams University, Egypt in 1990. In 1998, Dr. Mufeed obtained his PHD in Psychology from the college of Arts in Baghdad university. He also completed a subspecialty training at the West Kent NHS and Social Care Trust, London, as an Honorary Specialist Registrar in Learning disability psychiatry.

Later in 2008, Dr. Mufeed completed a six-month training course in “Global Mental Health: Trauma and Recovery Mastery Program” arranged by Harvard program in Refugee Trauma (HPRT) and Harvard Medical School.

Experience

Dr. Mufeed has over 30 years of experience as a psychiatrist in both governmental and private sectors with reputable medical and health organizations in the UAE and Iraq in addition to WHO.   Dr. Mufeed has also worked as an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of psychiatry in the Gulf Medical University in Ajman, UAE and a clinical tutor and lecturer of psychiatry-to-psychiatry residents, interns, and medical students at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. He is also currently an Adjunct Honorary Associate Professor in Mohamed Bin Rashid University (MBRU) Medical School, Dubai. He has participated, as a speaker, in many local, regional, and international conferences.

Dr. Mufeed has a number of published research papers especially on depression and anxiety among patients with certain diseases such as epilepsy and multiple sclerosis.

Dr. Mufeed is an International Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, an International Associate of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, a Member of the American Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, the Executive Committee of the Emirates League Against Epilepsy (ELAE), Chapter of the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE), the Emirates Society of Mental Health (Ex- Secretary General) and the Iraqi Society of Psychiatrists.

Clinically, he practices assessment and management of people with anxiety disorders (Generalized anxiety, Panic disorder, Phobias, Obsessive-compulsive disorder, Stress-related disorders), mood disorders (depression and bipolar disorder), psychotic disorders and psychiatry of epilepsy, in addition to Women mental health issues. He has also participated and is interested in public education aiming at raising public awareness in mental health and mental health problems.
