Pediatric Neurology

Pediatric neurology is the part of medicine taking care of young patients suffering from neurological disorders including neonates, children and adolescents. Neurological disorders are diseases of the human nervous system. The nervous system is divided in central nerve system (brain and spine) and peripheral nerve system (nerves of the head, trunk and limbs).

In the past, child neurology practice was limited to cerebral palsy, seizures and CNS infections. However, with advancements in imaging, neurophysiology (EEG/EMG/Evoked potentials), metabolic and biochemical testing and genetics, today a child neurologist manages a wide variety of disorders of the nervous system.

In partnership with The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), our Pediatric Neurology Unit at Danat Al Emarat Hospital will manage children that suffer from:

  • Epilepsy including children on dietary therapies or with a implanted vagal nerve stimulator
  • Developmental delay
  • Movement disorders
  • Neuro-metabolic disorders
  • Strokes
  • Neuromuscular diseases
  • Demyelinating disorders
  • Neonatal neurological problems
  • Acute neurological problems
  • Support in the management of children with cerebral palsy and autism
  • Support in the management of children with speech and language delays
